A girlfriend called me up the other day and said to me “ I am so proud of you! I can’t believe you built up your whole business and have changed all these peoples lives; all on a $100!”

For a moment I had to stop and think what she was talking about. Then it dawned on me that somehow she was reminding me how I first started Celebration of Being. Wanna know the story? Well it was a time when I was really going through an intense Rite of Passage, a dark night of the soul. I had been living in Europe and was planning to go and live in Australia. All my life, belongings and dreams were packed up and headed to Australia. Just as I was about to go, my relationship broke up and all my plans fell through. I was devastated. I really did not know where to go. So I stayed in England, and pulled the covers over my head for what felt like…..a long time! While I was there, licking my wounds….I heard a voice, it said: “NOW we can begin! I want you to lead a workshop, and it is to be called..” The Goddess” (which it was at the time) and so I did. I had no idea what I was doing, but I met a girlfriend who was also at a turning point in her life and career, and we had both been through a lot of life experience and personal and spiritual growth and training of various kinds, and we sat together in my fathers home in London and came up with a kick arse workshop. We led it several times in London and many more times in France, Italy, Switzerland and Germany…we had a blast and many adventures travelling around Europe, meeting many wonderful people and creating a great sisterhood along the way…but it wasn’t enough for me. I decided to head back to America, following my spiritual thirst and seeking liberation, I arrived in the US with $100 in my pocket.…

It was another Rite of Passage. New Years eve, 1997, I was broke, I was lost and I had no idea why I was there….but I kept following the calling. A voice inside me would not let me rest. I was not at all sure about the spiritual path I had found myself on, and I was also very uncertain how I was going to make money…and I had to do something fast.

I remember sitting down with a woman who has become a dear friend and is still my business coach. She asked me what I wanted my life to look like in five years. I said I wanted to be leading one workshop a month and to be helping people through my private coaching practice. I was fortunate to be guided to my sister and friend, Britta. She came to do the workshop and saw the transformation that happened for people and said Yes to becoming my business partner, and has been by my side ever since.

I did not believe it at the time but 15 years later that dream has become a reality, and Celebration of Being has become a successful business. Hundreds of people are finding self love and inner freedom as they heal their relationships. I am so grateful that I listened to the inner calling, and kept saying Yes to the next step. As I reflect on the courage, the tenacity and the sheer gutsiness of starting a business on a $100.I am glad I hung in there, and you can too! What is your dream that you dare to make a reality? What are you willing to risk for it?
